$1 Million Settlement for Botched Tommy John Surgery

$1 Million Settlement for Botched Tommy John Surgery

In 2014, Plaintiff presented to a local area orthopedic surgeon for a Tommy John surgery which involves harvesting the palmaris longus tendon and transplanting that tendon into the elbow to stabilize the elbow. The Chicago area surgeon harvested the median nerve instead of the palmaris longus tendon. Plaintiff suffered injuries in the median nerve distribution of her right hand. The plaintiff alleged the Chicago area surgeon took out the entire median nerve when performing the graft procedure for the Tommy John surgery. Dr. Susan Mackinnon at Washington University performed the repair surgery, which gave Plaintiff the vast majority of her function back. The doctor paid his insurance limits.
