$44 Million Dollar Settlement for I-65 Crash Victims

$44 Million Dollar Settlement for I-65 Crash Victims

In October 2017, a jury awarded Jim and Theresa Denton $54.15 million dollars in damages for the injuries Jim Denton sustained during a trucking crash in Jasper County, Indiana on February 8, 2011. According to John Kirkton of the Jury Verdict Reporter, the total verdict is higher than any Illinois auto personal injury verdict that has been previously reported.

The Dentons were represented by Robert J. Napleton.

On September 24, 2019, the Illinois Appellate Court affirmed the judgment amount.  The judgment was against Universal Am-Can, Ltd., David Lee Johnson and Louis Broadwell, LLC.  Those entities only had liability insurance coverage in the amount of $1 million dollars.

In addition to settlements previously reached with other defendants, the total amount received by the plaintiffs was Forty-Four Million Two Hundred Eighty-Five Thousand Dollars ($44,285,000), a firm record.
