$2.5 Million Dollar Settlement for 18 Month Old Malpractice Victim

$2.5 Million Dollar Settlement for 18 Month Old Malpractice Victim

An 18-month old female was brought to the emergency department with nystagmus (rapid involuntary movements of the eyes) and increased intraocular pressure. Defendants diagnosed her with infantile glaucoma and treated her with medication.  After a second opinion 5.5 months later, she underwent surgery on both eyes to lower the intraocular pressures.  However, by that time the infant had sustained damage to both optic nerves.  The settlement was paid by a self-insured hospital.
