Mr. Tarpey graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1986. Thereafter, he attended Villanova University Law School in Philadelphia graduating in 1989.
Mike began his legal career in 1989, with the international law firm Baker & McKenzie, LLP. Mike practiced as an associate trial attorney at Baker & McKenzie’s Chicago office until leaving in 1995 to form a new prominent Chicago law firm, specializing in the defense of medical negligence and product liability lawsuits. In 2008, Mike joined a national trial firm where he remained until joining Napleton & Partners.
Mike has successfully tried numerous catastrophic injury cases over his career, including wrongful death, medical negligence, product liability and transportation cases. Mike has handled cases in over a dozen states within the U.S. as national trial counsel, including a multimillion dollar settlement in Arizona against an insurance company acting in bad faith.
Mike has been selected as a “Leading Lawyer” in the areas of medical malpractice and product liability. Mike has received the highest possible peer review rating of AV Preeminent given to attorneys on a national level who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards. Mike is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Society of Trial Lawyers and a former member of the Board of Directors for the Chicago Trial Lawyers Club. Mike has been a featured guest speaker in both the U.S. and internationally, giving presentations on trial techniques, excess verdicts, medical negligence pitfalls and U.S. product liability law.
