A 68-year-old mother died after a local area laboratory failed to properly follow a stat order from a home health care provider. In October of 2022, the decedent was being cared for by a home health provider who ordered blood work on a stat basis. Stat means without delay or right now. Those labs were not processed for over six days, and the decedent passed away in the interim. Plaintiff claimed that the decedent died as a result of dehydration, which would have been clearly evident on the labs had they been ordered and processed on a timely basis. The settlement was made on behalf of a Chicago area laboratory. Bradley Z. Schulman represented the Plaintiff.
